“The current situation in the world necessitates development of Iran-Russia ties in areas of politics, economy, and defense,” said Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan in his meeting with visiting Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Valentinovich Novak late on Wednesday in Tehran.
During the meeting, held in Iran’s Defense Ministry Headquarters, the two sides discussed the ways to consolidate and develop joint efforts in fight against terrorism and more coordination with countries at the frontline of the war with the ominous phenomenon of extremism.
Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan voiced hope that the measures taken so far to develop bilateral cooperation contribute to peace and stability in the region.
The Russian official, for his part in the meeting, expressed content with visiting Tehran and meeting with Iran’s Defense Minister.
“Undoubtedly, the expansion of economic ties between Tehran and Moscow paves the way for broadening defense cooperation at a desired level,” said Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak later.
Condemning Western-led anti-Iran sanctions imposed before JCPOA, he called them unfair and hoped for all-out development of Tehran-Moscow relations as the heads of the two countries are decisive to.
